Calibration of rotary axes of machine tools and measuring machines with the LaserTRACER

The Rotary Axis Calibration is a new module for the analysis software TRAC-CAL. It is based on the same principles as the calibration of linear axes. Consequently this method owns the same advantages and can also be performed with the high acccurate LaserTRACER.

Thereby it is possible to calibrate your machine totally with only a minor additional investment. The software is able to calculate the systematic geometrical deviations of rotary axes, display in a graphic and supply compensation data in several formats. The method is suited especially for large rotary axes, independent of the type and orientation in the machine volume.

How the rotary axis calibration is working

Like for the linear axes the LaserTRACER doesn't need to be aligned precisely. At adjustable interval positions the interferometer is performing high precision distance measurements. After three positions of the LaserTRACER on the rotary table it is possible to compute the

  • Positioning errors of the rotation
  • Tilt motion in both directions
  • Radial motion in both directions
  • Axial motion
  • Squareness in both directions

A software assitent supports the operator for the configuration of the measurement. The axis deviations are shown in clear graphs. Also here the Monta Carlo Simulation is giving information about the uncertainty of the determined deviations. The measured data can be exported in different formats for compensation.
